thanks to my amazing mom who came to visit last week, we were able to complete a project we have been hoping to complete for some time...painting our stairwell and front hallway.
first, davis helped tape the hard-to-reach areas using a sketchy-looking, albeit sturdy, scaffolding system.
After taping, we sanded the trim and put down a layer of primer.
With the primer on, the hallway looked really large. 
thankfully our supervisor approved of our work...
the first coat of red went on next and it was very, very bright. so bright it was making the white trim appear pink!
thankfully, the second coat of red, paired with the white of the trim, was much darker and even.

Oh it looks lovely!! Reds are tricky...that first coat always looks rough but then it's like magic once coat 2 (or 3!) go on.

Oooo, I love it! We painted our 15 foot ceilings in our old place in Philly, and there was some stair trickery there as well. (John navigated the scaffolding; I'm a scaredy hat with heights.)
I love reds on walls, and it makes the table pop ever so well. Great job!
I LOVE LOVE the Red! What brand and color name is it? I especially love red hall/stairways. You have the perfect house for it too with that gorgeous wood floor and moudling.
we used benjamin moore's new aura paint and were VERY pleased with it. we are also fortunate to have a mom & pop wallpaper/paint store in our town, so i was able to ask LOTS of questions. the three biggest advantages of the aura paint were 1) it dried very quickly 2) it went on extremely smoothly and we only needed two coats 3) gloss, semi-gloss or matte are all equally good for high-volume areas...apparently it is made up differently than previous paints, so you can actually wash the walls and not get that weird mark that happens if you sometimes rub a painted wall.
