i just finished designing and making adoption announcements with matching envelopes for my friends who have recently returned home from China with their new daughter. in the interest of privacy, i created this 'faux' announcement for posting on the website:

the cost for 20 handmade cards and envelopes is $45.00; 40 cards are $80.

to be fair...

...last winter i posted this picture of the lilac tree outside our front window.

this afternoon, the sun finally broke through the clouds and I couldn't resist capturing a picture of what the lilac looks like now.

actually, the picture is more cherry tree blossom than lilac, but you catch my drift. what a difference four and a half months make!

i was so inspired by the pretty afternoon, i headed out to our garden and took some pictures out there of the flowers that we have been watching bloom for the past couple of weeks. some are past their prime, but such is life in a garden.

more home work

thanks to my amazing mom who came to visit last week, we were able to complete a project we have been hoping to complete for some time...painting our stairwell and front hallway.

first, davis helped tape the hard-to-reach areas using a sketchy-looking, albeit sturdy, scaffolding system.

After taping, we sanded the trim and put down a layer of primer.
With the primer on, the hallway looked really large.

thankfully our supervisor approved of our work...
the first coat of red went on next and it was very, very bright. so bright it was making the white trim appear pink!

thankfully, the second coat of red, paired with the white of the trim, was much darker and even.
